Testing the Pollution Hotspots in Pillar Point Harbor

For more than 30 years, Capistrano Beach has been notorious as one of the most polluted beaches in California.  The HMBYC Foundation is sponsoring a presentation, which will present an overview of the sources of pollution feeding into Capistrano Beach (the area just west of Barbara’s Fish Trap Restaurant).

The presentation will be given by two members of the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club.  Keith Mangold and Ed Larenas.  Ed is the former Chair of the San Mateo County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, and is currently an elected Member of the San Mateo County Harbor District.

We are also asking for donations to help fund a targeted program of testing to locate the source of the most severe contamination affecting the Capistrano outfall leading to the beach.  We are asking the public for a suggested donation of $10 per person.  Our goal to fund the testing is $1,500.
